About the Chinese Lunar Calendar
The Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar that tracks both the phases of the moon and the position of the sun. Months follow lunar cycles (synodic month ~29.53 days), while years align with solar terms (tropical year ~365.24 days). To reconcile the difference, a leap month is inserted roughly every 3 years — 7 leap months in every 19-year cycle.
Years are counted using the Sexagenary Cycle (GanZhi), combining 10 Heavenly Stems with 12 Earthly Branches to form a 60-year cycle. The 12 Branches correspond to the 12 Chinese zodiac animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
This tool covers years 1900–2100 and supports bidirectional conversion between Gregorian and Chinese lunar dates, displaying GanZhi, zodiac signs, and 24 solar terms — ideal for finding traditional festival dates and exploring Chinese calendrical traditions.
